NDP TO DEBATE COALITION GOVERNMENT MOTION
NDP leader Todd Hardy will debate a motion supporting progressive coalition government during the party’s opposition day in the Yukon Legislative Assembly on the afternoon of December 3.
The motion reads: That this House supports the option of a progressive coalition made up of a majority of votes and seats in the most recent federal election to govern Canada as the minority Harper Conservatives have failed to bring forward a much-needed economic stimulus package during this period of financial turmoil.
"I am bringing this motion forward because both the prime minister and the premier of the Yukon have made some very misleading and inflammatory public statements about the federal opposition parties ‘seizing power’ and ‘threatening economic stability’, when nothing could be further from the truth," Hardy says.
"This initiative by the leaders of the Liberal, New Democrat and Bloc Quebecois parties representing the majority of the votes cast in the last election is primarily about giving the people of Canada a government that will focus on dealing with the unprecedented economic crisis facing them today and for some time into the future."
