A Proud Record of Legislative Leadership

As Leader of the NDP Caucus since 2002, Todd Hardy has earned a reputation as an outspoken advocate for Yukon people, especially those who are often at the margins of society.

Todd's firm belief in the responsibility of government to protect the health and safety of our families and communities can be seen in his successful efforts to persuade the Yukon Government to implement the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act, and to bring forward comprehensive legislation to ban smoking in public places. The Bill he introduced in April, 2007 has since become law as the Smoke-free Places Act, coming into effect on May 15, 2008.

His commitment to making the democratic process more accessible, accountable and relevant to Yukon people is well demonstrated in Bill 108, which he introduced for a second time on Nov. 29, 2007, as well as in the 10 motions he tabled on Dec. 13 calling for improvements in how the Legislative Assembly operates.

In Question Period and in legislative debate, Todd consistently promotes the principle that public policy should always address the economy, the environment and the social agenda together.
